Privacy Policy

Roundtable (“Roundtable,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a collaborative family-tree app at famroundtable.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle when you use the app and the choices you have. By using Roundtable, you agree to this Policy.

Information you add to a board

Roundtable has no user accounts. A “board” is identified by a short shareable code. The information on a board is the information you and your family choose to add, which may include:

• Names of relatives, and their birth/death dates, places, and short notes;
• Relationships between people (parents, partners, children);
• Photos you upload for a person;
• The first name or nickname you enter for yourself, shown next to entries you add.

Please only add information about other people that you have the right to share, and be considerate about details concerning living relatives and children.

Information we handle to run the service

• Board data. Everything on a board is stored so the tree can be shared and kept up to date. Anyone who has the board code can view and (during the free period or on a paid board) edit that board.
• Optional contact details. If you choose to send feedback or make a payment, we handle the email address you provide for that purpose (for example, to send a receipt or reply to feedback).
• Analytics. With your consent, we use Mixpanel to understand which features are used. This uses an anonymous device identifier — no names or the contents of your tree are sent to analytics. Analytics is off until you accept the banner, and you can decline.
• Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting and analytics providers may process basic technical information (such as device type, browser, and approximate region) to deliver and secure the service.

How we use information

• To provide and maintain the collaborative family tree;
• To process optional subscriptions and send receipts;
• To respond to feedback or support requests you send us;
• To understand and improve how the app is used (with consent);
• To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the contents of your family tree for advertising.

Service providers we rely on

We use trusted third parties to operate Roundtable, and share only what is needed for each to do its job:

• Supabase — hosting and database for board data.
• Stripe — payment processing for the optional subscription. Card details are entered on Stripe’s systems and are never seen or stored by Roundtable.
• Mixpanel — privacy-friendly, consent-based product analytics.
• GitHub Pages — hosting of the website itself.

These providers process data under their own privacy terms.

Cookies and local storage

Roundtable does not use advertising cookies. We use your browser’s local storage to remember practical things — your analytics choice, boards you’ve opened on this device, and your session — so the app works smoothly. Analytics only runs after you accept it.

Data retention

Board data is kept so your tree remains available to your family. A free board becomes read-only after its free period unless a subscription keeps it editable; the tree stays viewable to anyone with the code. You can ask us to delete a board (see below).

Your choices and rights

• Analytics. Decline the analytics banner, or clear your browser storage, to opt out.
• Edit or remove entries. Anyone editing a board can change or remove people on it.
• Deletion. To request deletion of a board and its contents, email us with the board code (see Contact). Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete personal information.

Children

Roundtable is intended for adults building a family history, and family trees may naturally include information about children added by their relatives. Roundtable is not directed to children, and children should not use it to create boards. If you believe a child has provided information directly to us, please contact us and we will remove it.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Because boards are shared by code, please share codes only with people you trust.

International users

Our providers may process and store information in countries other than yours. By using Roundtable, you understand that your information may be handled in those locations.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Roundtable after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
